Home » General » New function in the Narrativen Service: Pattern Discovery

The Narrative Service has added a new feature: ‘Pattern Discovery’. This tool presents connections between pharmaceutical concepts from the searched literature in a network structure, making them easy to explore. It provides a quick overview of the relationships between the searched terms and other pharmaceutical concepts in the literature ressources.

Users can start by entering a set of concepts as a search query. Afterwards, all edges (interactions between concepts) in the resulting documents are evaluated (graph-based ranking, technical details), the scores for each edge are totalled across all documents, and the edges with the highest scores are visualised in a network structure.

Concepts are displayed in different colours depending on their type. On the left-hand side, concept types can be selected or deselected, allowing users to filter by active substances and targets, for example. Scrolling further down allows users to select data sources, enabling them to generate networks based solely on patent records, for example. The service also lists the documents used to generate the narrative patterns and which, accordingly, contain the concepts being searched for. Clicking on an edge redirects users to a corresponding search in the Narrative Service.
