Now you can access approximately 133,000 international dissertations from life sciences and pharmacy in PubPharm. The data comes from the BASE search engine.

What is BASE?

BASE is the abbreviation for Bielefeld Academic Search Engine. This search engine is operated by the Bielefeld University Library and contains over 240 million documents with scientific content (e.g., journals, repositories, digital collections, etc.) from different data providers. About 60 % of the BASE documents are freely accessible.

How do I find dissertations in PubPharm?

To display all dissertations from BASE in PubPharm, you can use the search command “GBV-ODISS-BASE“. The filter “Language” shows in its top 3 about 68,000 English-language, about 20,000 Spanish-language, and about 16,000 French-language dissertations.

To search dissertations for a specific topic, you can enter your search term as usual direct into the central search slot.  Then you can limit the results to  “university publications” using the filter function on the right-hand side below media type. The results then consist of dissertations, bachelor theses, post-doctoral theses, and similar publications.

 

 

What information does the detailed view of a hit contain?

If available, the detailed view in PubPharm provides information on the year of publication, authors, abstract of the dissertation, and link to the full text. The dissertations from BASE are all freely accessible.
